Human Values - A little introduction

Human Values are those universal concepts, drivers of action which are found in all cultures, all societies, all times and in all places. The five human values, which can be found in all cultures, all societies and in all religions, are Truth, Right Conduct, Love, Peace and Non-Violence . These values are eternal; they are eternal essences, which elevate human life to its highest expression, its highest capacity. Values are our codes of internal conduct, the principles upon which we run our lives and make our decisions. Our brains are hard-wired to seek the Ultimate Truth . No matter what blueprints are laid down by our families, education and work, we are seekers of ultimate truth. What words we put on this varies in time and place, culture and society, but we are all seekers of peace and truth. When: Truth is what we speak, Right Conduct is what we practise, Love is what we live, Peace is what we give, Non-violence is the ...

Poverty during Youth - So awful - says Avvaiyar

Avvaiyar II lived during the period of Kambar and Ottakoothar during the reign of the Chola dynasty (in Southern India) in the 13th century. She is often imagined as an old and intelligent lady by Tamil (South Indian) people. She wrote many of the poems that remain very popular even now. These include a list of dos and don'ts, useful for daily life, arranged in simple and short sentences. One famous event is the "Sutta Pazham Venduma, Sudatha Pazham Venduma.." between Avvaiyar and Lord Murugan (Deity of Tamil people) and the subsequent dialogues and songs. Lord Murugan asked her, what was the most awful thing in the entire World. Avviyar replied as below: Kodiyadhu Kaetkin Nediyavev Veloi Kodithu Kodithu Varumai Kodithu Adhaninum Kodithae Ilamayil Varumai Adhaninum Kodithae Aatronaak Kodunoi Adhaninum Kodithae Anbila Pendir Adhaninum Kodithae Inbura Aval Kayil Unbadhu Thaanae Meaning: If You ask what is the most awful thing in the world, my Lord with the long...

Knowledge Vs Intelligence Vs Brilliance

Intelligence: Intelligence is a process, or an innate capacity to use information in order to respond to ever-changing requirements. It is a capacity to acquire, adapt, modify, extend and use information in order to solve problems. Therefore, intelligence is the ability to cope with unpredictable circumstances. But intelligence is not merely analytical: to survive and flourish in society, we must also have social and emotional intelligence. Intelligence involves a capacity to adapt and learn that has been accumulated throughout our species’ development, yet intelligence is something we have by virtue of our individual genetic inheritance. By assiduous practice we can become more skilled. By diligent study and careful observation we can become more knowledgeable. But there is no way we can personally become significantly more intelligent. You can no more double your natural intelligence than you can double your natural height. ...

Never Sacrifice your Life for money: says Avvaiyar

(பா-22) You earn money after a lot of struggle. You earn it non-stop, till the end of your lives, no matter if you really need it or not. Avvaiyar just calls upon people like us to stop and re-think for a second, before continuing our non-stop rat-race. Days pass by.. Years pass by.. Decades pass by.. so soon, like a flash of lightning. Why on earth, do you really need to earn so much, that you won't have enough time to spend your money for yourselves and your family. You never get time to spend that money in useful ways and get happiness out of it. You ...

Top Human Values - 1

Co-operation It is the process of working together to the same end, but many view co-operation as a luxury and not an important human value. It is undeniably one of the most vital assets one can have when working through a problem. Having the opinions and voice of another person will not only draw out a discussion of the topic, but also lead you to a well-rounded solution. Co-operation has been under-appreciated for years in its importance and should be held in high regard. Caring Often seen as displaying kindness and concern for others, the true importance of this value comes from the work or practice of looking after those unable to care for themselves. Caring for others both physically and spiritually is a vitally important value to have; people will always rely on someone else for help at one point or another, but we often fail to realize how much of a difference caring for another person can make. Honesty Honesty feels like something you don’t come by often t...

Present Education system - A short story

Albert Einstein summarized the problem with standards and norms perfectly: "Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, it will spend its whole life believing it is stupid." Did you know that every child learns differently? That is why it is our responsibility to help children tap into their potential by addressing them as unique and special individuals. We must help them identify their strengths through error-less learning methods, where they can make mistakes but never fail completely. Error-less learning can help increase levels of self-esteem and self-worth in children, as well as decrease school dropout rates and incidences of bullying. Moreover, we will all be working together, as a team, to promote a world where success comes in all shapes and sizes. Unfortunately, this type of world does not yet exist. Instead, we still use a standardized system to measure educational achievement and children must lea...
